The material for each week will be available in several formats - in web page format (for reading online and downloading for pintout) and in Microsoft Word format (for downloading and printing out etc.)

Unit 1 (preparation for week 2): Issues in Media Discourse Analysis

The primary mode of delivery of the course material is via an online, interactive format. Here you read the notes and make comments, answer questions, do analysis etc online with your responses being saved to a database. They will be delivered to me electronically and I will use them as the basis for discussion in the following week's seminar session. So please endeavour to complete the online materials in advance of each seminar.

I have also provided non interactive versions of the same materials for use if

• you want to keep a hard copy version of the notes or if you would prefer iniitially to work through a printed out version (though you will need to complete the interactive elements online),
• the interactive version breaks down (always a good chance of the program crashing) and you simply can't do it online (then you will just have to prepare for the seminar in the old way...)

If you find that the interactive versions seems to have broken down, could you please email me immediately at crisis@lingo.info indicating the day and time you unsuccessfully attempted to access the pages, and if you have time, provide a brief account of what seems to be going wrong.
